WARNING: Copperhead Snake Killed

In the woods you never know what you may meet.
This one was a little upset.
Since pit vipers give off an odd smell when disturbed my pack found it quickly.
Cautiously they assessed the danger.
They do NOT kill harmless snakes.
They are a well trained pack.
They made
quick work of it.
 Only seconds passed.
After all a pack's job is to keep the pack and its leader safe.
It was big.  It was mad.  It wasn't backing down.
Copperheads are poisonous.
 The dogs
paid a price...note the swelling where they were bitten.
Told you that snake was MAD!
The dogs were fine within 24 hours.
They are good dogs, just how we trained them.

Sorry they were bitten. They must be building up a resistance by now.

Oh my GOSH!! I'm with Sandra. I know they are very poisonous and can kill people. Are dogs not as susceptible to their poison as people are? It is very good you have them. Did you train them yourself when they were puppies? I don't know how you can train dogs to do this instead of turning tail and whimpering! Perhaps it is all n the breed. Love your warnings, I tried not to look.

Good job. We'll call them the 'snake pack'.

I've been bitten by Copperheads twice. Once a dry bite, no big deal, on the arm. The other, a big snake bit me on the leg, and got his fangs tangled in my jeans so it was a bad bite.

My wife wanted me to go to the hospital, but I knew if I did they would keep me overnight, and we have a 4000 per person coinsurance on our policy. So I said no. It was not pleasant. I kill poisonous snakes out of hand, as I have lost some of my cats to copperhead and rattler bites.

I'm surprised the dogs survive.

So glad the copperhead is dead. Sorry about the pups getting bit. I can't believe they were okay in 24 hours. We've had two pups bite by copperheads in the backyard. We and the vet gave them Benadryl and they were swollen for days. I no longer have outside animals...:( Just one house cat. We have way too many copperheads, rattlers, and coral snakes out here.

I'm glad the pups are OK. They are a great team. I feel sorry for the copperhead, but I realize [now] it's poisonous.

I am stunned that the dogs don't have more of a problem with the bites. I almost lost a shepherd to a rattlesnake bite. It was a long, very expensive haul.

I agree with Sandra . . . first comment!
I would have a stroke if I came across a Copperhead . . .
AND . . .
peed my pants . . .
Quite the crew pack you have!

yeah, mine have had that same 'football head' swelling that abates in a day. i usually give them benadryl and aspirin to help with swelling and pain - not sure it helps much, but it makes me feel better. :)

Glad everyone is okay.

A pack is as good as their leader. You and your dogs are an excellent pack. They keep you safe and you keep them safe. That is what it is all about, my friend. I am glad all are okay. (Where is my Lizzie-Girl?) Hugs to you all.

Bless those dogs! How on earth did you train then to only kill poison ones? I believe you need to invest in some Muck Boots!

Were you freaking out? I would have been worried for the dogs.
We had lots of Copperheads in SC. Our dogs would alert us, but to my knowledge never attacked one.

So glad to hear all your dogs, and YOU, are safe.
A blessed weekend to you all, Gail!

Oh my, thank goodness your dogs were okay! And you.

Glad the dogs were okay. I always thought copperheads were one of the deadliest snakes, so this surprised me that they wouldn't have had a more severe reaction.

It's amazing what those dogs do on that farm.

=)

Such good protectors to put their lives at risk to keep everyone safe! I am glad they came thru it ok. Had I been there I would have surely died... of a heart attack! ;-)
